A little bit of a hidden gem in Derbyshire's crown, Matlock Bath is a village near the town of Matlock in the Derbyshire Dales.
Christmas 2015

Christmas crept up on me a lot this year. I was quite busy with Uni through the first half of December, so it really came out of nowhere! Despite being grossly underprepared (For instance, still wrapping presents in the early hours of the morning on Christmas day!) it was pretty enjoyable. So, here are some pictures of this Christmas:
A Week In The Life

Do you remember back in the olden days when I used to write a post at the weekend called 'This Week...' and I'd show off some photos of whatever I'd got up to? (Shameless plug: Read them here!) Well, I thought I'd kind of revive the same format, but film a video instead! (So you can see how much of a boring life I really lead.)

It's not technically a weekly vlog, because I don't really want to bore you by talking self-consciously and awkwardly to my camera. Anyway, here's what I got up to last week:

(LOOK OUT FOR: Mr. Potato Head! And the duck that pooed itself because I'm too scary.)

I turned twenty four* last week. To celebrate, I took a trip to London with my friend Amy. As promised, here's the little video that I shot on the day.

It's basically like a vlog, but without the talkie bits where I'm stood talking to my camera in public looking even more awkward than usual.

We explored, went shopping, and did some sightseeing too. We did got lost, as I mentioned in my last post, but you'd probably never know from this video.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed filming and editing it!

*Yes, I'm old now. I know.

Belper River Gardens

A bit of tranquility in an otherwise bustling town.

I love this place. In fact, sometimes when I get overwhelmed by wanderlust, this is the only place that reminds me that it's not so bad being stuck in Belper. If you read my last post, you'll know that things have been a bit rubbish recently, and it's going to places like this (where I'm not constantly looking over my shoulder) that keep me sane.

It's just a park, basically, but it's so serene compared to the rest of the town, that it's easy to forget that you're by a busy road, a train line and in a bustling town centre.

So, I thought I'd shoot a little video just to show you lovely readers one of my favourite places right now! Hope you enjoy it!

Water. Sunset. Bliss.

Here's a little YouTube video I quickly put together after visiting Carsington Water earlier this week.

It's so beautiful. I've never been around sunset before, and it was so lovely. As mentioned before, I've been feeling quite lacking in motivation and this has been such a refreshing change of scenery!

Also, this video contains swans. Lots of swans.

(Swans hate me, genuinely abhor me. Enjoy. Because I think the one in the video was about thirty seconds away from diving at me and trying to break my arm.)

Here is a video on my Quick & Easy Makeup Look!

It features only high street/drugstore products and my face is in it. A LOT. Sorry...

Okay, so I'll admit that I filmed this just over a month ago... But I've only just got round to editing and uploading it!
(I totally procrastinated on the editing thing, because my own face kept on making me cringe so much that I had to stop.)

Be gentle with me, because filming/editing a video and putting my face on the Internet like this (for the first time) is pretty scary and nerve-racking. I'm no Zoella, but at least I've tried!

Hope you like it!

Here's my (late) attempt at Vlogmas. Enjoy!

This is what I got up to in the past week. I couldn't do one every single day because I just don't lead an interesting enough life...

(I know that there's absolutely no demand for this, but humour me.)

*'That video' is my next YouTube video, which should be up in the next few days!

In case you were interested*, here's a little snippet of what I got up to last weekend.

Watching this video is slightly more exciting than watching paint dry. I lead a very boring life, which is why it's less than two minutes long.

(I also did not eat all of that cake myself. Just in case you thought I was REALLY greedy. I like cake as much as the next person, but even I can't eat three quarters of a sponge cake on my own...)

*Don't worry, I know you're not remotely interested, but humour me.

So, I've been meaning to make my own video for ages... And here it is!

How exciting!

It's a pretty basic video with a few bits and bobs that I've really liked using recently, and this post is going to go into a little more detail about the products that I've featured!

Paul's Boutique Watch

This is such a bargain! It normally costs £34.99, but is in the H. Samuel sale for £7.99 right now! Get it! Go on! Now! Quickly!

Now I'm picky when it comes to watches. I prefer understated, but not something that's going to completely pale into insignificance...

It's got a white strap and coloured triangles on it. One thing that struck me is that the second hand is a lightning bolt. (Get it... 'Struck me'? Ha. I'm here all week)...

PG Tips Green Teas

I know I've mentioned the Mandarin Orange flavour tea in my May Favourites. However, I've recently stumbled across their Lemon flavour too!

I'm not going to bang on about the benefits of green tea... However, they're good value and they taste lovely, refreshing and fruity. You can pick them up in most supermarkets for around £2.30.

EcoHydra Hand Sanitiser

It's getting to that time of year where everyone is getting ill and germs seem to be everywhere. Urgh. If you're a bit of a Germaphobe (fearful of germs, not Germans...) then this is a wonderful product!

It's foamy, like the ones that you get in hospitals. This particular hand sanitiser boasts about being effective against Norovirus, which is simply brilliant... Isn't it, fellow Mysophobes?

If you've got dry or sensitive skin, this won't aggravate it, as it contains aloe vera to soothe; and it has no alcohol in it either.

The Fault In Our Stars - John Green

I know I'm incredibly late to the party here, but I've only just finished reading this book! Yes, it's emotionally challenging difficult to read, especially on Kindles, which are electrical appliances; so therefore dangerous to cry on... Don't electrocute yourself, but do enjoy this book! It's not ridiculously popular for no reason!

Yes, it's sad. Yes, it's technically aimed at teenagers. No, it's not got a happy ending... But I'm sure you'll be glad that you've read it. If you haven't already, that is!

Primark Makeup Bag

This lovely Cath-Kidston-Esque makeup bag only costs £3. £3, everybody! It's simply a bargain of the highest order.

It's also huge! Which is perfect if you like to take everything but the kitchen sink out and about with you!

I reckon that this would also make a fantastic Christmas gift, if you're into buying presents this early.

If you read yesterday's post, you'll probably understand what on earth I'm about to talk about. If you didn't, click here to catch up!

Sam Pepper is in deep trouble. His latest three videos have led to an abysmal decline in popularity and reputation. Firstly, he groped some girls. Secondly, he got a girl to grope some boys. Thirdly, he came out and said: 'It was all a social experiment, guys!'

Whether or not he's saying that just to cover his back, I don't know... However, he didn't apologise, he didn't elaborate and he certainly failed to acknowledge everything that was kicking off; instead choosing to tweet several times about pizza... Maybe if he'd have posted the second and third videos earlier, before things had a chance to escalate, none of this would've happened?

I think what he was trying to prove is that people would be less outraged at a man being sexually assaulted. Who would be less outraged? It's still abhorrent to grope anybody you don't know.

Irrespective of gender, groping a stranger is totally unacceptable.

We can only speculate as to whether he was caught out and thought that he'd better try and cover his tracks by claiming it's all an experiment, or whether he'd planned all three videos far in advance.

Essentially this is just one huge ill-judged mess. What's important is that it has highlighted the need to take a stand against both male and female sexual assault. I'll repeat: Irrespective of gender, groping a stranger is totally unacceptable. I'm just not sure that Sam Pepper's done this in the right way; which is why there's understandably such a massive backlash...

I'll be back tomorrow with something a little less serious! I promise!

Unless you spent your weekend in a wi-fi free cave, you've probably heard of the whole debacle involving the YouTuber, Sam Pepper's, latest 'prank'...

If you were in said cave, here's what happened: Basically, Pepper walked the streets armed with a fake hand; and then proceeded to grope random attractive girls in the street with one of his real hands, before blaming it on innocent bystanders. After that, he forced the girls into a hug. All of this he filmed and uploaded to YouTube as his latest video entitled 'Fake Hand Ass Pinch Prank'. Nice...

It's worth noting that the video has since been deleted from YouTube, however, it's already caused a significant amount of damage to Sam's reputation.

The hashtag 'ReportSamPepper' has been trending at the weekend on an international scale. YouTubers from across the world have also been vocal in opposing this video. Pepper's even been banned from the huge YouTube event VidCon as a result.

Now, don't get me wrong, Pepper may have made a stupid mistake, but he's in the public eye and any mistake is going to be magnified significantly. The fact that he seemingly uses his position as someone who's 'Internet famous' to force himself on random women is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. There's a sense of entitlement that emanates from his videos: That he gets what he wants because he's Sam Pepper of YouTube.

Maybe Sam has totally misjudged this whole situation and genuinely never meant to cause any harm, but the silence that has since prevailed has spoken volumes. He has completely failed to acknowledge anything or, despite a huge Internet backlash, apologise.

In a self-appointed position of fame like he's in, he needs to stand up and be a responsible role-model. What kind of example is he setting to his viewers? 'It's okay to grope women, as long as you say it's a joke!'

I'll be honest, I'd never even heard of him until quite recently. I saw him as a guest on an E4 panel show and they showed a clip of one of his other videos: The one where he wanders the streets kissing random girls. I was a little perplexed by that and I'm not going to lie, I thought it was a little bit iffy.

We shouldn't be living in a world where it's okay to grope random people in the street under the guise of 'comedy'.

It's not funny that at least one of those women featured in the video was visibly distressed. She uttered more than once that she didn't like it... Yet Pepper still uploaded this footage. Why? I've no idea...

...If this video is deemed socially acceptable then it perpetuates the patriarchal myth that women are nothing but sex objects.

Thankfully, the consequent backlash proves that it's not a respectable thing to do and that it definitely won't be tolerated.

To the people who think this is just a harmless joke, imagine it's your mother, sister, girlfriend or daughter that's getting groped by a random stranger. You'd be furious wouldn't you? So why should it be alright if it's in the name of 'comedy'?

I'll calm down now. I promise.
