The Delight of Discovering Old Photos

Katie Brown Belper, Katie Writes, Katie Brown Photography, Denby,

A reminder of a halcyon summer's day.

A few weeks ago, I rediscovered these photos I took years ago of my friend, Amy. I think it was around 2011, and we'd just gone for a walk across the fields near home. Back in the day, we did this quite often, and I'd just decided to take my camera with me for once. While we haven't done this for ages, these photos bring back some good memories.

They were taken on my first ever DSLR, the Pentax K-X, (with the kit lens) which I used exclusively in 'Auto' Mode because I really didn't understand how to use a camera back then! As well as bringing back memories, they're a nice reminder of how much my photography skills have developed over the past five or six years too!

Last year, I wrote a post called 'Sorry I'm The Annoying One With the Camera' (read here!) apologising to my friends about the fact that I stick a camera of some description in their faces all the time, but also that one day they'll thank me for documenting the memories we've shared. This is definitely one of those occasions that I was referring to.

I'm getting to the age where I'm starting to forget things (already, honestly) and looking at photos reminds me of the good times my friends and I have shared over the past few years. My friends are also busy people now, living exciting lives, doing lots of great things, and that means we've less time to meet.

These kind of photos are always going to serve as a reminder of the people we used to be, when we had fewer responsibilities and worries, and when life seemed easier because we were young.

Finding old snaps make me glad that I'm borderline obsessed with getting my camera out and documenting everything.

Are you as snap happy as me?

P.S. Hope you don't mind me publishing these photos, Amy! 😅
