I'm a picky lady when it comes to mascara. Will this new offering live up to my very high expectations?

For starters, there are two different types of this mascara. The silver, which is a lengthening one, and the pink, which is geared towards offering more volume. I'm going to be talking about the silver one!

It costs a mere £4.99 for 7ml, so it's an absolute bargain!

The wand's quite thin and made of plastic. It easily combs through your lashes without leaving any clumps. The volume version of this mascara has a fibre wand, I think... Although, don't hold me to that, because I haven't tried it!

Unfortunately, I did have a little issue with smudging under my eyes (one of my pet hates...), but it wasn't too bad; and for £4.99, you can't really complain.

It's not the most dramatic of mascaras out there, but that makes it great for daytime wear. For nights out, you might want to opt for something a little more striking though. Showgirl is currently only available in black and there isn't a waterproof option to date, if that's more your cup of tea...

My final verdict? It's the first Barry M mascara that I've ever tried but I really like it! It's great value and, for the price, beats a lot of other high street mascaras which are more expensive

This is unusual, isn't it?

It's a blusher that you apply by stamping over your cheeks. As simple as this product sounds, I initially found it hard to get to grips with (but that just might be the fact that I'm a bit of a simpleton...)

There are five different shades to choose from and I tried the product in the lightest shade: 'Blushin'', which is quite a pale pink. The other shades were a bit off for my liking. Either too browny or too bright.

This works if you've got big cheeks. If you've got more 'subtle' cheeks, then it's probably going to be quite difficult to use this without looking like an Elf... And even with chubby cheeks, it definitely needs a fair bit of blending in afterwards; either with your fingertips or a blusher brush.

The quality of the blusher is good. It's nicely pigmented, so stands out well and isn't too 'powdery' on your skin. The blush is also matte, rather than offering a shimmery finish. On the negative side; it is quite easy to apply too much of this, but I think that's because the stamp itself sits permanently on top of the powder very tightly when it's not in use.

The packaging isn't too showy. It's a stamp in a box, basically. Who'd have thought? But there is a mirror on the top of the stamp, which is good for applying makeup on the move, or for touch-ups during the day.

You could argue that it's innovative or you could just say it's a little gimmicky. Despite it being a good idea; I'm not sure that I'd buy this again, because it's a bit of a faff. In all honesty, it's worth trying. You might like it and if you don't, you've not wasted too much money!

The Seventeen Cheek Stamp costs £4.99 and you can buy it from Boots by clicking here.

Behold, Ladies and Gentleman, for I am here to discuss a blusher that cost ONE POUND. Yes, really...

...Poundland have their own cosmetics range. Who knew?! Chit Chat is the seriously premium cosmetics brand from the chain where everything costs the hefty price of £1.

It's not actually that bad. That's a compliment. I really didn't expect a great deal from a product that cost so little, but it's not bad at all.

It really isn't the most pigmented of blushers available, but for a pound, what do you expect? That does mean that you have to use a little more to get a visible effect... But again, for a pound, is that really such a terrible thing?

The shade I tried is 'Blossom'. It's really subtle, quite shimmery and has a bit of a highlighting effect; which is great if you're looking for something a little less 'matte'.

When you look at it, it's deceptively pale. My photo definitely fails to give the paleness justice. I thought that such a light shade would struggle to stand out at all. However, as you can see from the extreme close-up*, it's definitely visible.

Poundshops and I have a bit of a tenuous relationship because they're brimming with bargains, which is great, except I'm a bit of a snob... But I'm definitely willing to swallow my pride if products like this are on offer. It's honestly quite good for the price and I am considerably more impressed with it than I thought I would be.

I do believe that there are an array of different shades; so there's plenty to cater for everyone, regardless of skin tone!

Get yourselves down to the pound shop and grab a bargain! (If you're not a massive snob too, that is...)

*Where I appear to be pulling a weird face. I'm blaming my LED camera light; it's way too bright to be able to pull normal faces in photographs.

*I lied. Sorry.

On Friday when I reviewed some foundation I called it 'Foundation Friday' and I'm not ashamed to call today 'Mascara Monday' either...

To call this an understated product is such an understatement. It's one that I've overlooked for years, if I'm honest. It's one of those great 'traditional' mascaras that's been on shelves for as long as you can remember and that's really stood the test of time.

The packaging, for starters, is something that's really quite hard to miss. It's a bit...garish, potentially? Bright pink and lime green...? Although, maybe I shouldn't be judging this book by its cover.

Maybelline have a good history of making bestseller mascaras. Great Lash is cheap, it's good and it does exactly what it says on the tin... Even if that 'tin' is so brightly coloured that you practically need sunglasses just to glance at it.

The brush is pretty bog standard. (Not bog brush. Don't apply your mascara with one of those, please. Imagine the germs, not to mention the panda eyes.) It's fibrous, not a 'show-off-y' plastic one and the shape is pretty standard too. As you can see from the third picture, I've compared the wand with Max Factor's False Lash Effect. The MF one has plastic bristles, as opposed to Maybelline's traditional fibre ones.

If you prefer a chunkier wand, you might be better off with a different product. Although, this would be great for coating your lower lashes, even if you don't use it for anything else.

There aren't even weird or science-y boasts about this product and with some of the stuff that cosmetics companies come out with nowadays, maybe that's a breath of fresh air?

I've been using the shade Blackest Black, but you can also buy Black/Brown, if that's more your cup of tea. There's also a waterproof option on offer too, for those who prefer that! They like to call Blackest Black 'Ultra Noir', because it sounds quite posh.

It's not going to leave you with lashes that look too dramatic, which makes it great for using as a daytime mascara. Like with Rimmel's new Wonder'Full mascara, you might need something with a little more 'oomph' for nights out. Also like Wonder'Full, it also promises to condition your lashes. I'm not sure whether or not it's worked for me...

There's nothing special about it and maybe that's what makes it so good? Brand after brand bring out new mascaras that claim to do all these fancy things for you and sometimes they fail to deliver. With this you're unlikely to be disappointed because it doesn't bang on needlessly about giving your lashes loads of volume or making them look false.

Now I will admit that I did suffer from a little bit of smudging under my eyes after a few hours. If you're a regular reader of this blog, you'll know how much I despise smudgy mascaras... It wasn't too bad and seeing as the mascara's so cheap, I'm willing to let it off. I even managed to get away without suffering from the dreaded 'clumpiness', which is brilliant for such a budget mascara.

Great Lash retails for £4.99 and it is a little smaller than your average mascara tube... Size isn't everything, after all. You can pick it up in drugstores and probably even the odd supermarket too!

If you're looking for a good mascara that's not going to cost the earth, then this is one to seriously consider.

Ooh, I suppose you could call this Foundation Friday, couldn't you? If you like alliteration as much as me...

You lucky lot. Two foundation reviews in as many days! I bought this a few months ago from Superdrug, but felt that even the Normal/Dry skin one was quite drying on my skin, so it was retired to the 'redundant makeup shelf'. I rescued it the other week and decided to trial it especially for you lovely readers.

For starters the formula is quite gloopy. You really have to work it into your skin to get good coverage and you have to be quick while applying it, or else it gets streaky... I applied this with my lifesaver AKA. the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush.

The foundation comes with a screw lid, without a pump dispenser, so you literally have to pour it out onto the back of your hand. Which is, of course, potentially messy and you run the risk of suffering from spillages and wasting the product if too much comes out at once. It's not ideal, is it?

However, it is REALLY long-lasting. Revlon claims that it lasts for 24 hours, but I don't wear my foundation for that long so can't confirm this. Who does?!

The product comes in two types: Normal/Dry and Normal/Oily. I'm using the former rather than the latter. Revlon are catering for essentially what are two different markets with the same product. Aren't they clever?

There are a great range of shades! You know what I'm like, constantly moaning about how cosmetics companies fail to deliver adequate products for super-pale people... So it's great that Revlon, like Rimmel, are leading the way of drugstore brands catering for really pale skin. I've been using 110 Ivory; the lightest shade, of course...

You definitely don't need a primer to give this foundation extra staying power, but may need one to mask the appearance of fine lines - which it can sink into a little. So, if you suffer from the odd wrinkle here and there, it's maybe better to pop some primer on underneath to stop it sinking in to those fine lines. I do...

I've found that the product offers medium to heavy coverage. It can sometimes feel a bit too heavy on my skin. I like my skin to be able to breathe properly under foundation and this is sometimes a bit too much for me. Which aptly brings me to my next point...

I'm not sure if this causes spots... Or if it's just coincidence that I've had breakouts the last two times that I've used this. I really don't know, but if you do suffer from quite bad acne, it might be better to look for something a bit 'lighter'.

The only definite problem that I've experienced with this foundation is unfortunately a big one. It seems to have aggravated my eczema. If you've never read my blog before, I'm a bit weird and suffer from eczema on my eyelids... This basically means that I have to be careful with regards to beauty products. I have noticed tightness around that area and after wearing it I had to crack out the hydrocortisone cream for the first time in months.*
*Dear Reader, do not put hydrocortisone cream on your face... You're not supposed to! The only reason I do is because the doctor told me to... And doctors scare me... So I do what they say.

The finish, with a light dusting of ELF HD Powder on top, is a matte one. I've even had compliments on how good my skin looks when wearing this foundation! In addition to this, it doesn't really oxidise or get ridiculously oily on my skin (in certain oilier areas) after a few hours... A huge bonus and saves me from dragging blotting papers around with me everywhere, just in case the dreaded shininess occurs!

You can pick this up for £12.99. So it's quite good value, but is hitting the top end of the high street foundation price range.

I would honestly recommend this to anyone, as long as you don't have problem skin. It's a really fantastic, but very overlooked, foundation.

So, to recap...

Advantages:
  • Shades for those with deathly pallors!
  • SPF 20,
  • Long-lasting,
  • Leaves a lovely matte finish.
Disadvantages:
  • Potentially drying,
  • Quite heavy on skin,
  • Lid could equate to spillages and messiness,
  • Potentially spot-causing.

*Ooh, shiny new mascara alert.* You know me, I'm incredibly picky when it comes to mascaras... So will this self-professed 'wonderful' mascara live up to my high standards?

You may well have seen Georgia May Jagger sashaying around making eyes at people while wearing this mascara on the TV ad recently? She was advertising this in style; as she does with all new Rimmel products, except when Kate Moss feels like sashaying in instead...

Anyway, back to the mascara... I picked this Boots a couple of weeks ago because I'm not ashamed to say that I'm hopelessly addicted to mascara.  It costs £7.99, but I bought on offer for £5.99... Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be on offer anymore. Sorry!

It contains argon oil, which seems to be everywhere at the moment! It claims to moisturise your lashes while you're wearing it. Impressive, if you've got dry lashes. I wouldn't be able to tell you if it's worked for me or not... I genuinely can't comment because I've not really used it for long enough. I've been using it on and off for less than a fortnight, so it's perhaps no where near enough to have had any effect...?

I would say that this is perfect for a day look, but you'd maybe need something a tad more dramatic for night time. It's really great for giving my lashes length, but it's not that fantastic at giving them loads of volume. That's fine for daytime wear, but at night, you might want a mascara with a bit more kick.*
*Don't kick your eyes.

The one thing that I really dislike about this mascara is the smudging. I know that not everyone necessarily has this problem, but I do unfortunately get this with a lot of mascaras. And it really dissuades me from using this one. Even if I curl my eyelashes to give them lift, the dreaded smudging still occurs. If you're lucky enough not to struggle with smudging, then I'm sure you'll love this mascara! It's just not ideal to have to keep on checking your eyes in a mirror throughout the day, to ensure that you haven't turned into a panda.

The brush is slightly similar in feel to Benefit's They're Real's - Albeit a bit fatter and without the 'ball' of spikes at the end of the wand. There's no clumping either, which is fantastic! One great thing about this mascara is that it's easy to create a slightly cat-eyed look, if that's your cup of tea...

(...People aren't going to mistake you for a moggy, but it looks eye-catching... Get it? Ha.)

The packaging, as you can see, is a copper-coloured curved tube. Rimmel always go the extra mile to ensure that their products catch your eye. Even if it does make it a little harder to photograph for your blog...

Unfortunately, this mascara is only available in Black. There's no Black/Brown option, which I tend to opt for if it's available. I don't think that Rimmel offer a waterproof version either.

N.B. As a complete, self-confessed grammar pedant, the name irritates me ever-so slightly. I'm sure that Rimmel are trying to say that it makes your lashes look fuller, which it does, and also wonderful... I get that, but it doesn't stop me being a Grammar Nazi about it...

So, to recap...

Advantages:
  • Great for daytime wear,
  • Offers fantastic lift to lashes,
  • Cheap,
  • No clumping.
Disadvantages:
  • SMUDGING,
  • Unsure if 'conditioning effect' actually works,
  • Not available in Black/Brown or Waterproof,
  • Plastic wand - Not ideal for those who prefer fibre brushes.

Feel Unique have had a fantastic sale recently with some HUGE reductions. In addition to this, they sent me an email with a 10% off code. So, with such extensive discounts, I definitely had to buy some bits and bobs!

Tanya Burr Nail Varnish
I've been after some of this for a while. It's an exclusive range by 'Eye Candy', but all the products were devised by Tanya Burr herself. I bought this in the beautifully bright shade 'Be Bright, Be Happy, Be You'. Tanya has named every single shade after something that means a lot to her, which is a lovely personal touch to all of her nail and lip products.

I've not actually tried this yet, although I am planning to very soon. Promise. When I do, I'll let you all know how I get on with it!

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo
Ooh. I was quite harsh in my review of this the other week, wasn't I? As I recently mentioned, I've had a terrible breakout recently and I had run out of my first tube. I thought it was definitely worth repurchasing while it was on offer. After all, it is sometimes a skin saviour!

In the end, I got about £2 off its regular (hefty) £15.50 price.

Móa The Little Green Balm
This is such an understated product and has myriad uses. Okay, so at £4.99, it's quite pricey, but it's a great treat and a little goes a long way. It's 100% natural and also very green, as the name suggests.

I use this for when my skin's desperately in need of some moisture, especially around my nose when I have a cold. It's absolutely wonderful for healing dry and sore skin quickly and you can even drink it as a tea too!

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick By Kate Moss
It's ages since I've had one of these lipsticks, so I thought that I'd buy one while it's on offer. I bought this product in shade 16, which is a lovely coral-y colour.
(I swear I currently have an obsession with coral lipsticks).

To me, it smells of watermelon? Maybe that's just me...? It's quite a moisturising lipstick, which is great considering that it only costs £4.49 (full price). I normally find that 'long lasting' lipsticks tend to dry my lips out horribly, but thankfully this doesn't feel too drying.

If you're a fellow zit-face like me, you'll relish the opportunity to try products that boast about their spot-killing capabilities. Does this product live up to my ridiculously high foundation standards? Read on and find out...

I turned to this foundation a few days ago, despite having owned it for a couple of months, because I've had another horrific breakout. The product contains salicylic acid, which is great for fighting spots. As you can see, it claims to clear your skin within four weeks. To me, that's an exciting prospect and I thought it was well worth a try!

I bought the foundation in Soft Ivory and I'm not actually sure whether this is the lightest shade or not. For some reason, it's defined as the second lightest shade... However, comparing this and Porcelain, the so-called lightest shade, Soft Ivory was the one that actually looked a bit lighter. As you can see from the second picture, it still looks terribly orange on my fair skin... I daren't leave the house wearing it again, for fear of people thinking I'm a star of TOWIE.

I like the consistency of this foundation, it's not too watery or too thick and gloopy either. It gives quite a matte finish and it's reassuring to think that it could be helping to eradicate those nasty spots whilst you're wearing it.

The packaging does say that this foundation offers a full coverage. I'm not sure it does for me. I had to use quite a lot of product to reach a finish that I was happy with. I'm not normally one for slapping loads and loads of foundation on, but it took a lot of this to cover blemishes and red patches properly. Even after applying, I wasn't that convinced that it left a particularly full or heavy coverage.

The tube, 30ml, isn't that big. Considering that you have to use a fair bit to get good coverage, it might not last all that long. (Surprisingly, it's actually the same size as a bottle of Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation, but looks far smaller).

By the end of the day, I caught sight of my reflection before I was about to wash this off. I genuinely looked terrible... Embarrassingly so. The foundation had descended into various orange patches dotted around my face. It was unbelievably patchy, to the point where I looked a little like I'd applied it in the dark. (Which I hadn't, obviously... I applied it in the light with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush).

Another problem with this foundation is that it did go a bit funny when I applied my setting spray. I wear setting spray pretty much every day and don't normally experience any problems with it. This foundation doesn't seem to get on with it. It's quite hard to explain, but I guess that it just 'unsettles' it a little and takes ages to dry afterwards. Now, I'm not sure if this is what made the foundation look patchy in the end, but I didn't notice patchiness at all initially.

I can't really comment properly on whether this foundation does clear your skin up after 4 weeks, like it says, because it's just so dark, I daren't wear it every day. I can't go out looking like a patchy Wotsit every day for a month, can I?

At £6.99, it's honestly worth a try if you suffer from breakouts and you're not too pale. I just hope others fare better with this foundation than I did...

So, to recap:

Advantages:
  • Spot-fighting ingredients,
  • Lovely matte finish,
  • Cheap,
  • SPF 15.
Disadvantages:
  • Potential patchiness,
  • Too orangey for me,
  • Quite a small tube,
  • Need to apply quite a lot for good coverage.
Have you tried this foundation? Did you like it? Comment below and tell me!

It's VERY pink, isn't it?
I was so excited to try this. I'm a huge fan of ELF's HD Powder, so I practically jumped at the chance to see what this was like.

I always wear blusher. I've definitely got big cheeks, so I tend to emphasise them a little more. Make the best of what you've got... (Even if those big cheeks are the reason that you're still getting ID'd five years after turning 18). I bought this product in 'Headliner', which is the lightest HD Blush shade.

I found that you only need the tiniest amount or else you end up looking like a garden gnome/real-life elf. The irony.

I don't want to be mistaken for one of Santa's little helpers (especially not in August). So I would seriously recommend using the smallest dab of this product on the apples of your cheeks; or else it just looks ridiculous.

I applied it with my fingers rather than a brush like I normally would. That's because I use Rimmel's Mono powder blusher daily and I didn't want to dirty my brush with a cream blush. However, I'm sure that this would be easier to apply with a stippling brush.

The packaging states that it offers: 'Rich pigmented colour for a soft focus effect'. I suppose that this is why I'm looking especially 'peachy' when I wear even a small amount of this. It's probably fantastic to wear for having your photograph taken or starring in a video; hence the 'HD' part in the name. The packaging also says that you should use a 'very small' amount, and frankly, they're not wrong there.

At £4.50 for 10ml, this product is good value and the fact that you only need to use it sparingly means that it will last ages. That's great. What isn't great is running the risk of looking ridiculous every time you dare to apply this product. I am ridiculously pale and this product really stands out on my porcelain face. If you're darker skinned, you can probably get away with putting a bit more of this on.

I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes using blusher. Give it a try, as long as you don't overdo it! You've been warned!

Have you used this blusher? Has it made you look like an ELF Elf?

I bet that question's been on your mind for a very long time, hasn't it? You're just dying to know the contents of my 'portable' makeup bag, aren't you? Admit it! You are!

I've seen a few posts like this and I hardly ever miss the chance to jump on a bandwagon. I'm not going on holiday this year, nor have I been on holiday for ages, soooo here's my twist: It's the makeup bag that I carry around in my handbag all the time.* (Yeah, I'm scraping the barrel here...)

*It's kind of a 'What's in my Handbag?'-type post, but without the rest of the contents of my handbag, because we'd seriously be here all day if I did that. I'm like Mary Poppins in that respect...

MOR Makeup Bag
This is a new makeup bag that I picked up a few weeks ago for £5.99 in TK Maxx. I really liked the peachy colour and the size means that I can easily fit plenty inside, but it also fits inside most of my handbags (of which there are many...)

4Head
I'm not into alternative medicine or anything like that; before the science community pick on me. This genuinely works for me. I'm a bit weird and I can't swallow tablets at all, so when I get a headache I either have to opt for drinking something containing soluble paracetamol or use 4Head.

It contains menthol, so it feels all cool and tingly on my forehead. It genuinely works for me and I don't know whether that's just the placebo effect or whether it's the ingredients, but I'd definitely recommend this if you struggle to swallow tablets!

Carmex
I love this. I think I've mentioned it before? Or at least, I meant to. I carry Carmex with me wherever I go and I even use it as my overnight lip balm. It's brilliant.

I cannot recommend it enough. This version of Carmex (the tube one) also looks quite shiny on your lips, so it's a really nourishing alternative to gloss. It's cheap and you can easily pick it up in Boots/Superdrug or supermarkets as well.

Benefit Boi-ing Concealer
I got this after Christmas in a reduced gift set. It normally retails for £17.50, which is a little out of my price range if I'm honest, so I jumped at the chance to get a select few Benefit goodies for a fraction of the price.

It's a really good concealer, but I use it sparingly because I want it to last as long as possible. It's that good and I'm too much of a cheapskate to splash out on concealer at that price on a regular basis. It is marketed as an 'industrial strength' concealer, which is exactly what you need on those days when you've not had a great deal of sleep.

When I do use it, I tend to solely cover those pesky under-eye circles with it, on top of my Collection Lasting Perfection concealer. (Yeah, it takes a lot to shift my dark circles...)

There are also two different shades in this set, but I only use the lightest one... Or else I'd look a bit daft with a pale face and orange-under-eye-circles. Wouldn't I?

Sleek Pout Polish
This is such an understated product. I got one in a beauty box a few months ago and loved the finish of the product, but wasn't that keen on the purple-y colour, so I went and bought one in a pinkier shade.

It's just like a lip balm, but with wonderful selection of colours available too.

Mac Cremesheen Lipstick
I went to London the day before my birthday (2nd Aug) and ended up wandering round Harrods eyeing up various pieces of makeup that are ridiculously far out of my price range. I'd normally be very reluctant to spend a whopping £15.50 on lipstick, however I thought I'd give myself a birthday treat... It is a girl's prerogative to buy expensive makeup, after all.

I bought this in the beautiful shade Coral Bliss. I always seem to be drawn to coral lipsticks, it's weird. Or, I'm weird... But we already knew that.

This lipstick applies with ease and stays on for ages without an additional coating product like Lipcote. It's also moisturising and doesn't really dry my lips out like a lot of lipsticks do, which is a huge bonus!

(I only just managed to stop myself from splashing out on some Chanel Lumiere foundation... That genuinely took ALL of my willpower.)

Lóreal Million Lashes Mascara
I have talked about this before in my May Favourites. So I'm not going to go into loads of detail, except for saying that I always like to carry mascara with me out and about, just in case my eyelashes need perking up.

Kleenex Blotting Tissues
I bought a couple of packets of these a few months ago from Home Bargains. They were only a pound, I think. These are wonderful for those days where your skin's on the oily side or when it's hot and your makeup looks hideously shiny, then starts sliding off. You just pat them over your face to take away the shine.

I have used a handful of various brands of blotting tissues over the years and some of them actually add powder to your face instead of zapping the oil out; like these ones do. I prefer to get rid of the oil rather than have extra product like more powder applied to my face, so that I don't clog my pores up.

Toni & Guy Classic Shine Gloss Serum
I love this. It's not pricey at all and I always carry it with me just in case I end up with the dreaded frizz. This tiny version costs £2.19 for 10ml. Even if I use it every day, it seems to last ages. It's definitely worth trying out and the size means it's really easy to carry around with you.

Collection Lasting Performance Concealer
Did you read this post earlier in the week? If so, you'll know how much I adore this concealer. I take a tatty older one (that's pretty much run out) with me everywhere, just in case my dreaded dark circles start to show.

The mirror is Cath Kidston. Oh, and the candle is from Sainsbury's. It was only £2.50.
I'm not a pyromaniac, honestly.

Ooooh. How exciting is this? Not very, you could argue... But please don't. I'm going to take you through my top five all time favourite products! Surely you're at least a little excited now...?

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer
Yes. Surprise surprise. Ha. I know absolutely EVERYBODY talks about this and adores it, so I won't go into great detail. Suffice to say, I've been using this for years and it's seriously the best concealer I can get my hands on (that isn't too orange) in high street stores.

I buy the lightest shade which is 1 Fair. I mainly use it to conceal the dark circles under my eyes, and I'll let you into a secret: The older I get, the more of this I seem to get through. It's quite depressing really.

This miracle product retails for £4.19, but Boots have it on offer every now and again. The fact that it's quite often out of stock is a testament to how good this is (and how much everybody already knows about it...)

It also covers up spots wonderfully and seems to last pretty much all day. I don't know where I'd be without it.

Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara
I'm getting better at balancing mascara, aren't I?
I'm pretty sure I've mentioned before that this is my favourite EVER mascara. Again, I've been using this for years. Since I was about 17/18 and I'm still using it now at 23. (Yeah, I'm old, I know...)

I know it's not to everyone's taste, but I love this mascara. It gives my eyelashes a dramatic lift and volume to make my eyes noticeable, without making them look too 'spidery'. I normally use Black/Brown because I have blue eyes and I don't want to emphasise them too much for daytime wear. However, the Black is great too.

Granted, at £10.99, it's quite expensive for a high street mascara. However, I'll also let you into another secret, Fragrance Direct are selling it for £7.99... You can thank me later...

Max Factor also offer waterproof and 24 hour versions* of this mascara, but I still tend to opt for the bog-standard one.
*Who's wearing mascara for 24 hours in one go anyway?

Vitapointe Leave-In Conditioner

I really need to buy some more, don't I?
I'm not sure that many people will have heard of this. It's a bit of a hidden gem; tucked away on bottom shelves in Boots.
It costs £2.09 or £2.29, depending on where you shop. You can use this during the day, but I prefer to use it at night as a 'hair mask'. It's a white cream that smells quite 'soapy' to me and it just makes your hair look a lot healthier whilst making it feel softer too.
If you suffer from frizzy hair, this is such a great product to tame it with! It's so understated, but it's honestly a brilliant product and it won't break the bank either!

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Body Lotion
Yellow, gooey bliss in a bottle.
I adore this. It's more of a treat for me, because my daily body lotion is a Boots £1.49 one, on account of me being a cheapskate.
It's bright yellow, super-nourishing and smells gorgeous; quite chocolatey.  As someone who's quite picky when it comes to body lotion, I'm always after a good all-round product and this is probably my favourite 'cheaper' one. One problem is that it's quite difficult to get out of the bottle towards the end, because it's just so gloopy.
It's also supposed to be quite good at reducing the appearance of stretch marks and it's much cheaper than other alternatives which boast about having mark-reducing qualities.

The price normally ranges from about £4-£6, depending on what size bottle you buy.

Anatomicals Body Washes
Sud the Lot of You...
I'm a huge fan of Anatomicals. With their tagline: 'We only want you for your body', they're a comical brand who don't really take themselves too seriously.
I have a bit of an obsession with their body washes, which I use every day. I've built up quite a collection of them over the past year or so, from 'Sud the Lot of You' and 'You Should Be So Mucky (Mucky, Mucky, Mucky)' to 'Shower to the People'.
They put a great deal of effort in to ensure that the names are funny and the packaging is littered with jokes too. All of the body washes that I've tried smell amazing and they also lather up really well too.

A little goes a long way and a bottle costs between £2 and £3. You can buy them from ASOS, Superdrug and selected Morrisons stores, I believe.

Have you tried any of the above products? Do you love them as much as I do?

If you're a regular reader of this blog, you'll know that a couple of months ago, I reviewed Max Factor's Whipped Cream Foundation in shade 40 Light Ivory. Which you can find, by clicking here.

I remarked upon the fact that it was a tad too dark for my very pale skin. I also remarked that it would be SO good if Max Factor created a lighter shade, and lo and behold, my prayers were soon answered.

I stumbled across a new lighter shade of this foundation on Fragrance Direct (a budget beauty and fragrance website, for those who aren't aware); which was 30 Porcelain. You'd think though, wouldn't you, that this would be ever so slightly lighter? However, to me, it doesn't really appear to be.

30 Porcelain. I thought Porcelain was really white? Not... Orange?
40 Light Ivory. It doesn't look Ivory-coloured, does it?
You'd think that Ivory and Porcelain would translate as just off-white, wouldn't you? But a great number of cosmetics companies seem to continue churning out '50 Shades of Orange' under the guise of 'Porcelain' and 'Ivory'.

I'm gutted. I applied it yesterday and realised quite quickly that I looked like I'd been tangoed... Just the same as with the Light Ivory. If you compare the two pots, they look like the same shade, or at least, uncannily similar.

Boots and Superdrug don't sell the new Porcelain shade, which puzzles me. As I said before, I really like this foundation and I would seriously consider adopting it as my main foundation if Max Factor got their act together and created noticeably lighter shades.
Left: 40 Light Ivory, on the Right: 30 Porcelain.
They look so similar. I can see a slight difference in colour, but only very slight. I'd say that 40 Light Ivory looks 'brown-er' whereas 30 Porcelain looks a bit 'pink-er'. Either way, they're both too dark for my skin. The above photograph actually makes the two shades look more distinguished from each other than they do in real life.

The foundation normally retails for £9.99 and when I bought it last week, Fragrance Direct were selling it for £5.99. I really like the texture and finish of this foundation, so I thought by finding a 'paler' shade which might actually match my almost deathly pallor, I'd struck lucky. Perhaps not, eh?

Have you bought this foundation? Have you found the two shades to be the same? If so, drop me a comment!
