Nothing says 'I'm a cool twenty-something' like indulging in middle-aged hobbies like pottery painting, but do y'know what? I don't really care. It was actually very fun!
My friend Amy and I booked this about a month ago, and when the day finally came, we ventured up to Stoke (after having a few teething issues, like the Sat Nav falling off the windscreen constantly and getting lost somewhere near Burton?) We were horrendously late but the lovely ladies there were really accommodating there and let us paint anyway.
Basically, they sit you at a table in the decorating studio. You wander up to the shelves at the back and pick a blank pot (there's mugs, plates, and jugs in different sizes) and then you choose your paint colours, and any stamps you might want to use. After that, you take them all to your table and start painting. It's all about releasing your creative side and making your very own, entirely unique, Emma Bridgewater creation. One of a kind.
Amy and I both picked mugs to paint. Amy chose the baby mug (above, on the left) and I opted for the half pint one (right.) When you're done, you pay for what you've painted, and then either choose to have it delivered to your house, or to pick it up from the factory once it's been in the furnace.
As you can see, I relied pretty heavily on the stamps - the hearts, stars, and even a dog in homage to Cookie. Amy, on the other hand, is much more artistic than me, so she did some freehand painting - Check out the petals, they were done by hand, not with stamps!
I can't wait for them to be finished and delivered, and I'll pop a little photo on Instagram of the finished creations when they arrive!
After our time in the decorating studio, we couldn't resist popping to the factory store to check out the seconds. The store's full of all of the usual Emma Bridgewater stock - but slightly cheaper as there are slight (barely noticeable) imperfections.
It would've been pretty easy to spend ALL the money I had in there, but I remained fairly sensible and only bought a couple of mugs, and a bit of cutlery. (The hardest part of the day was definitely exercising enough self-control not to buy everything in the shop. Just look at how pretty it all is!)
